Our Governors
We are part of a Multi Academy Trust. There is a governance structure in place to support and monitor all that we do.
Members
Members are the subscribers to the Trust’s memorandum of association and have the power to appoint or remove Directors. Only the Members can amend the memorandum of association and are responsible for ensuring that the MAT Board are compliant.
Board of Directors
The MAT Board’s powers are delegated to them by the Members. They are responsible for controlling the management and operation of the Trust. They are responsible for ensuring that it is solvent, well-run and that the schools are delivering the standards required. They are responsible for setting the school budgets and appointing the Governors in the Local Governing Bodies.
Local Governing Bodies
In 2024, a decision was made to merge the governing boards of Leek High School and Westwood College to ensure continuity, consistency, and fairness across both institutions. This resulted in the formation of a new Combined High School Governing Board.
The Combined Governing Board operates under delegated authority from the Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) Board. While the specific level of delegation is subject to negotiation, it typically encompasses key areas such as day-to-day operational oversight, student welfare, staffing (excluding the appointment of the Headteacher), and budget monitoring.
The governing body works in close partnership with the Heads of School at both Westwood College and Leek High School. Together with the Executive Headteacher and wider staff team, they are committed to delivering the highest possible standard of education and care for all students.

Register of Pecuniary and Business Interests
The Local Governing Body of Westwood College ensures that governors and staff are not involved in activities that might conflict with their role within the school. It is especially important to demonstrate that individuals do not benefit personally from the decisions made by governors, unless such decisions are made openly and legitimately. As such the register of interests must be available on the school website.
This register is updated fully each year and reviewed during the year.
